SMBJ130A TVS diode is a surge protection device designed based on the avalanche breakdown principle,designed to protect sensitive electronic circuits from ESD (electrostatic discharge),surges and other transient voltage interference.Due to its fast response (nanosecond level) and low leakage current characteristics, this device is suitable for over-voltage protection in communication interfaces,industrial control,power supply systems and automotive electronics.

Working Principle of TVS Diode

  • Normal state
    When the circuit voltage is lower than the reverse cutoff voltage, the device is in high impedance state (cutoff state), which has almost no effect on the circuit.
  • Transient voltage trigger
    When the voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage, the device quickly enters the low impedance state (avalanche breakdown), discharges the excess energy to the ground through itself, and clamps the voltage below the clamping voltage.
