Summary

EV on-board chargers (OBCs) are directly connected to the AC grid (AC 220V/380V) and the vehicle's high-voltage DC battery (DC 400V/800V) during operation. They are vulnerable to lightning surges, switching surges, and electrostatic discharge. MOVs and GDTs are required to eliminate electromagnetic interference and spike voltages from the grid.
