SMBJ18CA is a bidirectional transient voltage suppression diode,specially designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment from transient voltages such as lightning, electrostatic discharge (ESD), and inductive voltage surges. The device is widely used in communications, industrial control, power systems, consumer electronics and other fields due to its fast response speed and strong surge absorption capability.

Working Principle

  • Normal state
    When the circuit voltage is lower than the reverse cutoff voltage (18V) of SMBJ18CA, the device is in high impedance state (cutoff state), which has almost no effect on the circuit.
  • Transient voltage trigger
    When the voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage (22.1V) of SMBJ15CA, the device quickly enters the low impedance state (avalanche breakdown), discharges the excess energy to the ground through itself, and clamps the voltage below the clamping voltage (29.2V)
