The SMBJ28CA TVS diode is a surge protection device based on the avalanche breakdown principle, specifically designed to protect sensitive electronic circuits from ESD (electrostatic discharge), surges, and other transient voltage disturbances.When a transient pulse exceeding its breakdown voltage appears in the circuit, the device quickly switches from a high-impedance state to a low-impedance state, diverting the overvoltage energy to the ground.

Working Principle

SMBJ28CA uses silicon avalanche technology. When a transient pulse exceeding its breakdown voltage appears in the circuit, the device will quickly change from a high impedance state to a low impedance state, shunting the overvoltage energy to the ground. The bidirectional model can suppress transient voltages in both positive and negative directions, while the unidirectional model can only suppress transients in one direction.
