semiware recently announced the launch of the pled series of LED Open Circuit Protector product line, Semiware's PLED open circuit protector products, using SOD-123FL, SMA, SMB and other surface mount packages, these PLED open circuit protection devices can be used with a high brightness 1 watt LED products, 3V conditions, the nominal current of 350mA, the When an open-circuit fault occurs in an LED string or array, it provides a protection unit that automatically resets when the LED in the circuit recovers itself or after power cycling. Compared to Silicon Controlled Rectifier (scr) and zener diode LED open circuit protection solutions, the PLED series offers higher reliability and lower maintenance costs, making it ideal for outdoor LED lighting or signage applications where reliability is critical.

Program Description:

LED light emitting diodes are fragile solid state devices.The LED is a diode that constitutes the light emitted when the p-n junction is forward biased.One of the main reasons for LEDs to electrically open up is thermo-mechanical stress on the leads.Other reasons for LEDs to open up are electrostatic discharge events or surges caused by nearby lightning events. These threats are especially high in outdoor applications.
Open LED protection is designed as an electronic shunt that provides current bypass in the event of an open circuit caused by a single LED failure. It is an internally triggered two-terminal device that automatically resets if the LED heals itself or is replaced. The protector is a voltage-triggered switch with low leakage current in the order of microamps to become a low-impedance switch when it is triggered, thus minimizing power consumption. the LED drops in state by about 3.0V, which is not enough to turn on the protector. Once the LED fails open, there is enough circuit voltage to trigger the protector to the energized state when connected in parallel with the LED.
Semiware's PLED06 series of open circuit protector products are designed to bypass 1 open LED string due to its minimum breakdown voltage of 6V. The PLED06 series of open circuit protectors can handle up to continuous current making them suitable for use in protecting 1W and 3W LEDs 2w 1000mA.
