What is Silicon Controlled Rectifier?

Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR) is a controllable switching components belonging to the thyristor. It can be turned on by an external trigger signal and turned off when the current drops to zero. It is widely used in power control, rectification, motor drive and other applications.

Important Parameters

  • When selecting a thyristor, we need to pay attention to the following parameters:
  • Maximum forward current (I_T): The maximum current that the thyristor can work for a long time.
  • Reverse withstand voltage (V_RRM): The highest reverse voltage that the thyristor can withstand.
  • Trigger current (I_GT): The minimum gate current required to turn on the thyristor.
  • Holding current (I_H): When the current is lower than this, the thyristor automatically turns off.
  • Turn-off time (t_q): The time required from turn-on to complete cut-off, which affects the high-frequency working performance.
