Overview

semiware’s ESD protection technology provides an ideal combination of low capacitance, low clamping voltage, and high ESD robustness for your design, helping to protect 10 Gbps data line systems in automotive applications from ESD and surge events.

Three pillars for optimized ESD protection:

  • Low capacitance of 0.2 pF for high signal integrity
  • Low clamping and triggering for enhanced system protection down to 0.4Ω (Rdyn)
  • High robustness to withstand ESD up to 15 kV and surge up to 7 A (at 8/20 μs)

    Main Features

    • Available between 3.3 V and 5 V VRWM
    • Extremely fast switching time below 1 ns
    • Very low clamping voltages achievable
    • Suitable for up to 10 Gbps per pair
    • Robust protection for sensitive transceiver SoCs
    • Ultra-low dynamic resistance/capacitance combination
    • Exceeds IEC61000-4-2 level 4, provides IEC61000-4-5 robustness
    • Available in leaded and leadless packages SOT23 and DFN2510.

    Our protection circuits consist of two subsets of devices that can be used together or individually:

    • The very high surge robustness devices are designed to be placed between the connector and the AC capacitors to protect the decoupling capacitors and transceivers from possible peak pulses (up to 20 A).
    • The very low peak voltage devices are designed to be placed between the capacitors and the device, providing industry-leading low trigger voltages to maximize system-level protection (Vt1 as low as 3.5 V).

    It is recommended to use protection devices from both subsets together to achieve excellent ESD protection.

    Semiware's ESD protection device parts have extremely low capacitance to ensure high signal integrity, and have extremely low clamping voltage and high robustness for new in-vehicle interfaces. Specific in-vehicle applications include automotive infotainment systems, multimedia and ADAS systems using USB 2.0, HDMI, LVDS, SerDes and SD card interfaces. The product capacitance is as low as 0.2 pF, the clamping voltage is only 1.5 V, and the device can withstand surges and ESD pulses up to 7 A 8/20 µs. This performance is industry-leading in all aspects and is provided in the widely proven SOT23 and DFN2510 packages.
