- Power Interface
Power supply is one of the main channels for surge intrusion.
Indoor/5V Adapter Scenario:
- Recommended Component: SMBJ5.0A TVS Diode
- Key Parameters: SMB package, rated power 600W, sub-nanosecond response time.
- Protection Objective: Absorb surges from adapter instability, reverse connection, or conducted surges.
- RJ45 Interface
This is the primary interface for connecting to the external environment and requires protection against both ESD and lightning surges.
Basic ESD Protection:
- Recommended Device: GBLC03CI low-capacitance TVS array.
- Key Parameters: SOD-323 package, nanosecond-level response time.
- Suitable Scenarios: Primarily for indoor use or scenarios with low protection requirements.
- USB Interface
USB interfaces are primarily exposed to ESD threats due to frequent plugging and unplugging.
- Recommended Device: SR05 electrostatic discharge suppressor.
- Key Parameters: SOT-143 package, low capacitance, fast response.
- Protection Objective: Meet 15kV ESD protection requirements without affecting the quality of high-speed USB signals.
- SD Card Interface
SD card slots are prone to ESD due to user insertion and removal.
- Recommended Device: SE10F04B24UA, DFN1006-2L packaged bidirectional ESD protection device.
- Key Parameters: Ultra-small package, suitable for high-density PCBs.
- Protection objective: Meets IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 standard (contact ±20kV, air ±15kV).
- Audio Interface
For smart cameras with two-way voice functionality, the audio interface also requires protection.
- Recommended Component: SE23T35B5.0MA.
- Key Parameters: SOT-23 package, 5V bidirectional, capacitance as low as 0.8pF.
- Design Considerations: Low junction capacitance components should be selected to avoid affecting audio signal quality.
PCB Layout Recommendations
The layout and grounding of protective components directly affect the protection effect.
- Proximity to Interface: TVS/ESD devices must be placed close to the protected interface (e.g., RJ45 connector) and form the shortest possible discharge path with ground.
- Direct Discharge Path to Earth: The ESD current discharge path should be directly connected to Earth Ground or Chassis GND and should not be shared with the internal signal ground (PGND).
- Ground Plane Segmentation: It is recommended to isolate the ground of the protection device from the ground of sensitive circuits such as the PHY chip to prevent interference coupling.
- Shielded Grounding: RJ45 connectors with metal shielding shells must have their shells properly grounded and not left floating.
- Signal Routing: High-speed signal lines must pass through the protection device before entering the back-end chip to ensure that the protection device activates first.
